Trigger Lock
Affiliate link — we may earn a commissionA trigger lock holds the trigger in the on position so you don't have to squeeze continuously. On a corded drill, it's a button near the trigger that clicks into a groove when the trigger is pulled. Press the button, release the trigger, and the tool keeps running. Pull the trigger again to release the lock. On angle grinders, a paddle switch or slide switch serves the same function, keeping the grinder running without constant hand pressure. Cordless tools rarely have trigger locks because battery runtime makes continuous unattended operation less practical.
Why It Matters
Extended drilling, grinding, or sanding sessions fatigue your trigger finger. A lock lets you relax your grip without the tool shutting off. On a corded drill, it's also useful for drill press conversions. On grinders, the paddle switch is a safety feature too. If you drop the tool, releasing the paddle kills the motor.
