Rafter Hook

A rafter hook is a retractable metal clip on a drill or impact driver that lets you hang the tool from a belt, rafter, joist, or scaffold rail. Most pro-grade cordless tools include one in the box or as an optional attachment. The hook folds flat against the tool body when not in use and flips out when you need it. Some hooks are reversible (left or right side mounting) for handedness preference. Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita all include rafter hooks on their M18 FUEL, ATOMIC/XR, and XGT/LXT models.

Why It Matters

Working on a ladder, scaffold, or roof, you need both hands free between driving fasteners. Dropping a drill from a roof is a broken tool and a hazard to anyone below. A rafter hook keeps the tool within reach without setting it on an angled surface where it slides off. It's a $0 feature that prevents a $200 replacement.
