Makita makes a cordless right-angle drill on the 18V LXT platform. The XAD06Z is the current model with a brushless motor and compact head. It competes directly with the DeWalt DCD740 and Milwaukee 2807-20, running lighter and quieter than both at the cost of slightly less raw torque.

Makita 18V LXT Platform

Uses standard 18V LXT batteries. The anti-vibration system helps on long boring sessions. A 5.0Ah battery is recommended for self-feed bit work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the XAD06Z compare to the Milwaukee 2807-20?

The Milwaukee has significantly more torque (750 vs 515 in-lbs) and a wider accessory ecosystem. The Makita is lighter (4.7 vs 5.2 lbs) and has less vibration. For heavy boring with large self-feed bits, the Milwaukee is stronger. For mixed-use drilling in tight spaces, the Makita is more comfortable to use all day.

Can the XAD06Z handle auger bits?

Standard auger bits up to about 1 inch in softwood, yes. Larger augers or self-feed bits above 2 inches will push the 515 in-lbs limit in hardwood. In framing lumber (pine, SPF), it handles larger bits without problems.
