Frequently Asked Questions

Empire vs Stabila: which level should I buy?

Both hit the same accuracy spec. Stabila has a longer track record for holding accuracy over decades. Empire costs $15-20 less and the e-Band vials are slightly easier to read. For most users, Empire is the smarter buy. For finish carpenters who want the absolute best, Stabila remains the gold standard.

Are the LED-backlit vials a gimmick?

If you work in attics, crawl spaces, or basements, no. Holding a flashlight while checking level is awkward. The LED vials solve a real problem. If you only work in well-lit areas, save $10 and get the standard True Blue.
