Yes, and this is one area where drum sanders excel over planers. Plywood veneer faces are thin (1/32 to 1/16 inch), and a planer's rotating knives can catch and tear the veneer. A drum sander removes material slowly and evenly, so you can smooth veneer faces, remove light glue squeeze-out, and even thickness down veneer sheets without destroying them. Set a very light depth of cut (1/64 inch or less) and use a slow feed rate. This is one of the strongest arguments for owning a drum sander.
