Anti-Vibration

A random-orbit sander vibrates at its OPM frequency for the entire sanding session. Over hours, this contributes to hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), which causes numbness, tingling, and reduced grip strength. Anti-vibration systems use counterweights, rubber-dampened handles, or isolation mounts to absorb the vibration before it reaches your hand. Makita, Bosch, and Festool invest heavily in vibration dampening. Budget tools generally don't.
Why It Matters
HAVS is cumulative and permanent. If you sand for 4 to 6 hours a day, vibration exposure adds up over months and years. Anti-vibration handles reduce the transmitted vibration by 30 to 50% depending on the system. For occasional weekend use, it's a comfort feature. For daily professional use, it's a health issue.
