Makita makes several cordless angle grinders on the 18V LXT platform. The XAG04Z is the standard 4-1/2-inch model with a paddle switch. For heavier work, the XAG09Z handles 4-1/2 to 5-inch discs with a brush guard.

Both models run on 18V LXT batteries. The XAG09Z draws more power under load, so 5.0Ah packs are recommended for heavy grinding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Slide switch or paddle switch?

Paddle switch is safer. The grinder stops immediately when you let go. Slide switch stays on until you toggle it off, which is convenient for long grinding sessions but less safe if the tool catches or kicks. For cutting, always use a paddle switch.

What is Active Feedback Sensing?

It detects when the disc binds or stalls and shuts the motor down automatically. This prevents the tool from kicking back. Makita calls it AFT. Milwaukee calls theirs RAPIDSTOP. Both are worth paying for.
